Responsibilities by function
As in the other steps of the due diligence cycle, various functions play a role in monitoring progress.
Procurement
The procurement department plays an important role in monitoring progress. During discussions with suppliers, they can assess whether sustainability risks are adequately addressed. The procurement department also has insight into the frequency of last-minute order changes or cancellations.
Legal Affairs
The legal department oversees compliance with agreements and supplier codes of conduct, and more.
Finance
The finance department can closely monitor adherence to policies, such as timely invoice payment.
Sustainability
The sustainability department is well-informed about relevant developments related to human and environmental rights violations. The department collaborates with relevant departments to set priorities for monitoring, informed by knowledge of risks.
Human Resource Management
In addition to the grievance mechanism, the HR department can internally assess whether policies are being followed by conducting individual conversations with employees. It is important that employees can confidentially share their concerns with HR.
