Responsibilities per Role
Procurement
The procurement department is uniquely positioned as they are directly connected with suppliers. Therefore, they can quickly get a good picture of the situation and ask questions if there are concerns. For example, think of the scenario where a news article exposes child labour in the country you do business with or if the factory has received a negative audit. This information supports management in taking appropriate measures.
Legal Affairs
The legal department supports management in identifying suitable restorative measures. For example, the department is well-informed about legislation and regulations.
Finance
In some cases, a company may choose to take financial remedial measures. The finance department ensures that a budget is allocated and advises management on the financial possibilities/impacts.
Sustainability
The sustainability department closely monitors developments in the sector. They are well-informed about actual and potential risks in the sector. The department advises management on how to provide or cooperate in remedies. This department identifies relevant stakeholders who can contribute to or collaborate in remedy.
Human Resource Management
All employees must have trust in the grievance mechanism. The HR department plays a major role in this for internal employees. The HR department provides training and information about the mechanism, is open to questions, and contributes to a safe environment where employees can express their concerns.
